How to enrol
Bates Drive School provides educational programs for students with special needs, from Kindergarten to Year 12, in a supportive and caring environment.
Bates Drive School is a public school which operates under the policies and procedures of the NSW Department of Education. A regional placement panel assesses applications for special settings and ensures eligibility of your child. In order to be placed at Bates Drive School, your child must have a confirmed disability with a moderate to severe intellectual disability as their primary diagnosis.
Applications for placement are through the access request process. An access request is usually arranged by the school learning and support team at the local public school, however it can also be organised through the local educational services team if a child is not yet enrolled. Local teams can be contacted on 131 536 and calls can be made from anywhere in NSW.
A student is offered enrolment in a special school through a placement panel process. A student's eligibility is determined through the department's disability criteria, as well as the availability of a place in an appropriate special class.
A special school reviews the placement of each student annually. Review processes consider all aspects of a student's personalised learning and support, including whether or not the current placement is most suitable for their learning and support needs.

Application forms must be completed in English. However, a translated application to enrol may help you to fill out the form in English.
