Our playground

At Bates Drive School, our playgrounds are designed to meet the needs of our diverse range of students. We have separate play areas with play equipment suitable for different ages and designed with your child’s physical and social development in mind.

Sandpit

Our infants and junior primary students enjoy this play area each morning during arrival, with all classes having access to this area throughout the day. It contains a large sandpit for sensory and constructive play activities. Students may also use the springfree trampoline, bikes and scooters in this area.

Sensory Gym

The sensory gym area consists of a variety of brightly coloured, soft climbing obstacles and slides. This is a highly engaging area for our infants and junior primary students to develop their gross motor skills and social skills.

Trampoline

Our playgrounds feature a number of enclosed, springfree trampolines as well as a large inground trampoline. The inground trampoline area is accessed by primary and high school students during break times. It provides sensory input as well as opportunities to develop communication and turn-taking skills.

Playground Equipment

Our general playground areas feature a large, purpose built play structure as well as spinners, a small sandpit and a large sensory hammock. These areas provide a range of sensory and gross motor experiences for our students.

Liberty Swing

Our Liberty Swing is a fantastic resource which allows all students to engage in a fun play activity whilst also catering for their sensory needs.

Pool

Every student at Bates Drive School has access to the on-site swimming pool each week and throughout the year. The pool has recently been enclosed with the addition of a heater, to ensure warm water temperatures all year round and allow swimming programs to be implemented regardless of the weather. The pool allows students to develop a range of gross motor, sensory regulation and leisure skills.
